Your Pathway to Health at Vaelera Clinic
Referral & Appointment
Once the NZRSI team has received a referral from your Doctor or Nurse Practitioner, we’ll arrange your 60-minute in-person consultation with one of our Medical Specialists. You will be asked to have a blood test and a urine (protein level) test done a week prior to your initial appointment.
Personalised Plan
During your initial visit, we conduct a medical assessment, and develop an individualised plan for you, integrating:
- Medical treatment (pharmacotherapy)
- Nutrition + exercise plans
Health Coach
After your initial visit, our Health Coach will make contact with you. They will work alongside your medical plan, specialising in guiding you with nutritional strategies, movement coaching, and mindset shifts for lasting results. Our Health Coach will tailor a structured follow-up plan with you.
Ongoing Support
Our Medical Team will closely monitor your progress through a structured series of appointments:
30-min Telehealth at 4 weeks, 3, 6, and 9 months
30-min in-person or Telehealth review at 12 months
Ongoing care: 30-min follow-ups every 3 months (if continuing)
(*in-person follow-up consultations can be arranged if preferred)

At our clinic, we pair weight loss medications with lifestyle optimisation strategies to help our clients achieve their weight loss goals. Our programme is designed for people seeking comprehensive weight loss solutions who meet the following criteria:
- Age > 18 years
- Body Mass Index (BMI) >30kg/m2 or BMI >27kg/m2 with weight-related health conditions
Our clinic programme specialises in the use of weight loss medications called GLP-1 Receptor Agonists. To ensure patient safety and optimise care, we are unable to accept medical referrals for people with a history of any of the following:
- Pancreatitis
- Known allergic or adverse reaction to any GLP-1 Receptor Agonist
- Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- Personal or family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)
- Moderate to Severe Renal Impairment (eGFR < 40ml/min) or End-Stage Renal Disease
- Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
- Severe Gastrointestinal Disease including gastroparesis, bowel obstruction and inflammatory bowel disease
- Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
- Personal history of Eating Disorder
Yes, you will need a referral letter from your doctor or Nurse Practitioner – this assists us in having an up-to-date and comprehensive summary of your medical history, current medications, allergies, and any additional relevant medical information of note. Referrals can be emailed to referrals@nzrsi.health.nz
Once the referral letter is received, one of our doctors will review whether our programme is right for you. If so, a team member will initially contact you to arrange your first appointment, and again to confirm your attendance.
Our weight loss programme offers you an initial first specialist appointment (FSA), with follow-up appointments via Telehealth or face-to-face in our clinic.
Yes, we will send you a lab test form for both a blood and urine (protein level) test to be done a week before your appointment, so the results can be discussed with you in clinic. We will ensure your GP or Nurse Practitioner has access to a copy of the results. Follow-up lab tests will also be requested at 12 months, or earlier if needed.
The doctor will take measurements from you including height, weight, and blood pressure, and will formulate a weight loss management plan with you.
Yes. We charge a 50% late cancellation fee if the appointment is cancelled less than two working days prior to the scheduled appointment time. The same fee applies for non-attendance.
